I just went from 13X42 to 14X48. 14X48 and 110 links on the chain verified good in middle of adjustment range on my '14. Not verified but seems like I could go 13 or 15 on countershaft sprocket with the 110 links. I am happiest I've been so far with this gearing. If I didn't ride some road I would and may go for the 13 up front.

Great thread, thanks everyone for sharing. I went from stock 14/42 to 13/42 and love it. I thought I'd try to get back to 14 for better chain wear so after reading this, I'm going to go 14/50, 110 link chain. This should give me even more grunt.

Good good, I had the 14/48 and liked it. I put a 13 tooth on the front 48 rear to ride with my brother's Yammie TW200. It was perfect. I believe 14/50 was stock on the dirt only KLX300. FYI, with the 13/48 I was pulling 7k rpms at an indicated 55 (we know this is optomistic) and doing an indicated 60 mph at 8k rpm. I could still almost slow to a stop in first and have a clean pull up the rev range without the clutch. Nice!
