if I ran a 35 watt heated vest off the battery? Would I fry something? If I shut the vest off a few miles from my destination, would that give the battery enough time to charge back up? I know we have discussed this before, I just cant remember what the conclusion was. Thanks in advance.

You have at least 40 watts to spare so no problem.

I have tested this under real world conditions.

You can run most heated vests with no worries. The charging system will keep up. You will have to watch things a bit closer if you try to run a vest and heated grips at the same time though. Also, thepower consumption ratings on most devices are a bit on the'modest' side shall we say. EverythingI have tested so far consumes more than what it is rated at. A 35W vest will probably draw in excess of 40W,but that should be no problem. I tested the bike out with a 55Wautomotive head light that actuallyconsumed about 68W and the bike held up fine (no battery discharge).

The battery began toslowlydischarge when I turned-on both the 55W light anda pair ofheated grips.

Switching to and H4 based HID headlight will free-up another 20W. That will be on my list for next season[8D]

Great!! Thanks for the info. I will be installing an acc plug today then. I will also look into the LED brake light. Do you guys know of a good one, on a budget?

As in a 12 cigarette plug? Good, then you can make a pigtail from a battery tender and top off the battery once in a while without having to pull panels off of the bike. Also makes for a nice way to jump start between bikes.

I have a battery tender. The plug comes out the back near the coolant resevoir. I think an acc plug will be the best. That way I can run the I-Pod off of that this summer. Now I just need that I-Pod with video so I can watch Long Way Round while I'm riding....lol.
