have made a deal and the buyer is planning on picking the bike up on Thursday evening. gonna hate to see it go, it's still new pretty much for pete's sake. anyways, i need to move on to something more powerful. i know a lot of you have heard me talk of husqvarnas and that's what i plan on getting. however i think i'm gonna stick with the TE 250. I have himmed and hawwed over the 250 and 450 and after talking to dealers who ride them and reading pages of forum threads it seems the 450 is quite powerful and probably more than i'm wanting. one dealer actually warned me that if i didn't watch out it would buck me off with the oem throttle limiter in. i told them what i wanted and where i was coming from (the KLX) and a dealer down in missouri that also sells kawasaki told me that going from the KLX to the TE 250 would be like going back to an 80 as it's so light and the power would nearly be twice that of the KLX. I think this is the way I'm gonna go. I want something that i can control and the 450 with my light weight may be more of a chore to ride than the 250. Athena also makes a conversion kit for the 250 that takes it to 310 i believe which i could do if the 250 isn't enough but i seriously don't think this will be the case. stock the 250 makes right around 35 horsepower, with my mods on my KLX and what documented dynos have read with a BigGun and rejet I'm probably pushing 23 horsepower. plus the Husky is nearly 30 pounds lighter. that's a huge difference right there. i know most of you will say you can never have enough power but in this case i disagree. i'm not racing it just playing and doing wheelies and the 250 i'm told will do wheelies up the ying yang. plus it's already decked out with high end componentry and an Arrow exhaust. so hopefully next Monday i can drive to Omaha and pick one up.
Two words for ya Iowa: Test Ride. Since you've already decided that the KLX250 was a little low on power for your liking, I'd test ride the TE 250 first before plunking down any cash. A dealer will tell you anything to make a sale: "Ricky Carmichael couldn't ride it, it's so powerfull!", "Chicks digblue and yellow bikes!", "Husqvarna owners regrow hair!" Even dealers that I was good friends with have "stretched" the truth. Take both the 250 and the 450 for a ride, then decide. Just my 2 cents.
Yea what Mustang said, and no matter what happens Iowa come back and let us know how things turn out, it may not be a Kawasaki, but we still want to hear from you from time to time........wait did I just say that?

Good luck man, keep in touch.

Congrats on the sale, hope you got the $$ you wanted.
Do yourself a favor and really research your next purchase. I would try to find a used one thatsome body is selling and just act interested so you can test drive it (if the dealer wont let you).

It was the hair thing, wasn't it.
My Kaswaski dealer told me the same thing. Every night I rub my head on the green fenders, but all I've gotten so far is a scab and a muddy head!

i just called D&J Motorsports in Omaha where I am planning on buying the bike. I talked to them about the 450, they matched the dealer in Kentucky's price of $6899 otd. I also asked if there was any way of test riding the two bikes and they said as long as I had a motorcycle license there was no problem. So the plan now is to be at their door saturday morning when they open. This of course pending on everything going as planned with the sale of my bike. Funny things tend to happen with the sale of anything.
