Default weird shifter problem

Anyone have their shifter do a strange down pop after shifting 2-4th ? I got stuck on a muddy hill and dumped my bike about 4 times today. It shifts into gear but a second after it pops down onto the top of my foot. Stays in gear.

Unfortunately, that's a common failure point on the KLX,
What normally happens is the centering pin on the shifter pawl gets bent by a tumble and won't let the ratchet mechanism center.
A search will return plenty of posts on this.

Are you talking about the star shift problem?

Do a search in this forum for the word 'pawl' and you'll see plenty.

Ok I did some digging. Looks like I need to get in there and check everything out. No big whoop. Now as far as my shifter, I'm using a Banchee shifter because I needed to lengthen the thing for my size 13 foot. Even though it was aluminum,it obviously was the cause of this. Where can I get a longer shifter that's not going to cause this again?
