Default Valve Check Time???

Was wondering who has checked their valves at 1600 or less miles and found them to be out of spec. Since there is 2 feet of snow on the ground, I was thinking of checking mine and adjusting them..wonder what the chance of them being out of spec with only 16XX miles on her

Mine were still "brand new looking" when the mech checked mine around 9k miles. Kinda depends on how clean you keep your air filter, how much dirt/street you ride, and how hard you are on the motor.

yeah, every ride is going to be different. Lets just say that at 1600 miles or less is when I check my stuff to see what is happening.

Most ridden mine on the street's with a mix of off-road every so often. Checked the valve clearance multiple times and all were with in spec range. I now have 7,000 miles on the KLX.

My mechanic said a good way to "know" when to check or that they're bad is the bike will get difficult to start cold.

On a side note: My cam chain must have just clicked tighter a notch because my motor was running rather loud and now its purring like a kitten I'll check my miles tomorrow. Just ordered my new tires, air filter, and oil filters

I think I read this same thing in Dirt Bike magazine a while back.

I wonder... has anyone had a bike that was hard to cold start, found the valves to be out of spec, adjusted them, and then had the bike start quicker when cold.

I noticed this after I replaced the cam chain, even thou I never adjusted the valves. When trying to start the engine cold when I cam chain problem. The engine was a bit of a dog to start. Even on warm days. But after I replaced the cam chain. It started up much faster.
