Upgrade To HID Lighting Using *Stock Headlight* - Part 4 ... The End Has Come!
I ended up getting a set from Kensun. They are on Amazon with overall very good reviews. I went this route as they say customer service is great and Amazon has been very good about customer service issues with me in the past.
I did the 4300k Bi-Xenon kit. It is a set off two. So accordingly it was twice the price. However, I would have bought two anyway as if I have a problem with bulb or ballast I am set.
I weighed all the options and I think in the long run this is a good way to go for my needs.

A follow up on the Kensun kit. It all looks good, packaged nice etc but the ballast was too big and I could not find a suitable location. It may have been able to fit right up next to the head tube area on the left side of the bike but was a close call. I decided instead of modify the wiring (power needed to be longer) etc I would send it back. Out $7.
I just wanted to update this if someone else wanted to order the kit. It is a nice kit and would be fine for some applications but not this.

Yep. I thought the kensun would be small enough. Just a tad tight however. Amazon is good to deal with which is why I went that route.
Any real life reports on the durability of these off-road???
I was talking to my son about it, and he was telling me (he was in a tractor while I was talking to him) that the Deeres he drives have a half-dozen (or more) HIDs on them, and they seem to hold up fine. I doubt the tractor lights get as much vibration as my KLX would give them when I'm riding some of the "rock-gardens" we have around here.
I'd like to hear what KLX riders are experiencing as far as the HID durability goes (especially in rough off-road riding conditions).

I think the bulbs design wise are at least as durable as a Halogen which is not saying much. Electronics are going to be all over the board depending on the quality of manufacture.
I think LED is the most durable solution though.

i burned out a bulb for the hid kit for my toyota and they wanted more for a replacement bulb then i payed for the hole kit online so i just put the stock bulbs back in but had one good bulb and two good ballasts left one day was thinking if my bike took the same h4 bulb as the truck, which it did the kit i have i just plugged the ballast into the head light harnes and the bulb into the ballast, bam! hid made easy, mounted the ballast where stupid smog pump used to be, thanks kawasaki for that handy bracket! the kit i had for my truck had a hi/lo, the low is the hid and the high is a xeon regular bulb and everything works great no probs thought it was going to be a night mare but it was so simple! took the bike up to walker valley orv park this weekend in the pouring rain, splashed through all the deep puddles and the ballast held! as to the legality i was stopped by washington state patrol when they were in my truck, just gave me a warning cause they needed to be aimed correctly, no ticket
