Uncorked KLX vs WR

Uncorked KLX vs WR
I bought the mods to uncork my new-to-me 2007 KLX but because of work, have yet to put them. Having never ridden a Yam WR250 OR a modified KLX, ask how do the two comparein terms of power and speed?

There was a post about this very topic about a month or so ago. Do a search and you might find it.
An uncorked KLX vs a stock WR is a pretty even comparison. The yamaha has a little more top end power so it can cruise at highway speeds a little bit better.
A stock WR has 25 hp and about 14 ft. lbs. of torque. An uncorked KLX usually has around 22 hp and 15 ft. lbs. of torque.
Throw $500 in performance parts at any KLX and you will have a great bike for $2000 less than a WR. Heck, throw on a big bore for another $500 and you will outrun any WR and still be way ahead money wise.

If a stock WR puts out 25 hp then what happends when you add an AC and exhaust and a powercommander for the efi. does it go to close to 30 hp which would be more powerful than most of the 351 dyno's that i've seen?

I don't know that answer, but, I do know either bike begs for suspension upgrades before they need more power. I decided to go the KLX route for two reasons: 1) Cheaper, and 2) More Aftermarket parts available. With armor, suspension, Big Bore, Aux Tank, jetting, the total cost is still under what a WR would have cost without those (needed) additions. Plus, I'm old-school enough to want Carbs instead of Electronics when I'm out in the middle of nowhere...I could be wrong, but, I consider Carbs to be more reliable.

I look at it like this, you can buy a KLX and throw $1000 is engine mods, $500 is suspension and tires, $500 on guards/racks/tanks/other accessories. Keep up with any bike and for less than the price of a stock WR, you can have a pretty bad azz bike the way you want it.
Now you can mod a WR a little bit, but by the time you are done, you will be way over budget. But why stop there? You can buy a KTM that will outrun all these bikes but it will cost you $10K.
So you might as well buy the cheapest good bike, build it the way you want it, and call it good. No matter what you do, there will always be a better bike out there.

Get what you want and can afford, and enjoy it. KLX was just right for me.

I'm liking this KLX too.
