I agree with Deej as far as who wants to do 80 on this bike, but stock it should come close. if you can't do 60, then my guess is there is something wrong with your bike, or the gearing is not stock...

 

Or you weigh 400 lbs and there's a headwind.

I can easily accelerate past 70 mph onto multilane highways riding double with my wife on the stock 2009klx250s. I had more power left to accelerate but rpms were getting high for my young (1000 miles) engine and the wife wasn't thrilled about the speed.

Lol with my uncorked KLX, jet kit and stock muffler and header i'm lucky to hit an indicated 90 going downhill with a stiff wind behind me and the throttle pinned.

Maybe with a BB bore kit and pumper carb, exhaust and 15t you could hit 70+ with power to spare but stock, you must be smoking the good stuff.

 

Ok so for those of you who put in to 300 jet kit. Do I just follow the instructions it comes with or do I have to modify it to fit my sf? Also, do I NEED a kouba screw to properly tune it?

 

The comment about it doing 80MPH is the literal truth. I have a bone stock 2007 KLX250S and I actually got it up to a bit over 80MPH but the bike was really at the ragged edge of its envelope. It might be funny to add but I did have a tail wind and for all I know, that might have given me 1 or 2MPH more. Maybe my leaning forward also helped (kidding).

60MPH is a more realistic speed for this bike but even still, it takes a little time to get there.

 

Just follow the instructions. No, you don't NEED a kouba screw - it just makes tweaking quicker and easier as you don't nee any special tools or to tilt the carb to get to teh stock screw.

 

On the road with my KLX I get passed by KLR650's, BMW's and pigs like that...But on the trails THEY get passed by ME, on my agile and light KLX.
That's the way it goes...baby ! A dual will always be a compromise on both road and dirt. The KLX compromises aren't big ones for my usage.
