TRICKEL CHARGER

TRICKEL CHARGER
I saw that trickle chargers will burn up the battery, run it dry. Is there anything to this becasue I have had one on my 1988 RX-7 for years and my battery has lasted for years as well. What is the difference between an auto battery and KLX battery. Or is someone just trying to sell another charger that is nothing more than a trickel charger when they say they aren't?

If the answer is that long term use of trickle chargers will burn up the battery, you might be interested in a battery tender instead. On sale here:

RE: TRICKEL CHARGER
Well take a look at your "trickle charger" and what is the output on it? I have a battery maintainer that once the battery is charged it actually backs off and stops charging. Then if it senses that the battery has dropped by 3% it tops it off again. Some trickle chargers at least a few generations ago, simply charged batteries at a small rate continually forever, which over time would boil the battery out. My battery maintainer (which is just an industry name change) is more sophisticated than that. Here is what I have, it charges at 750mva which is3/4 of an amp. Even regular vehicle battery chargers on low put out 2 amps and don't ever shut off.
I also added a 12v plug on both bikes so I could just plug it in without having to take off any side cover to keep the battery topped off.
And of course the quick jumper cables for that occasion when someone leaves on thier key while out on the trail somewhere. No names

RE: TRICKEL CHARGER
Yes, they go by several different names, but you want the 'smart' battery chargers that charge at fairly slow rate andthe stop charging once the battery reaches a preset level.
A Trickle Chargernever stops charging..albeit at aslow rate. That might notbother a largecar battery, but thesmallamout of electrolyte in our little6mah bike batts will bubble dry.
