When I bought my '06 and ordered the manual, they gave me two books. One is for a '93 - '96. The other one supplement 1999 - 2005. This supposedly was as good as it got, according to my dealer.

IMO Kawasaki shop manuals are crap. Honda hands down has the best shop manual.

Kawasaki part # 99924-1165-03 is the correct shop manual. It covers the KLX250R and KLX250 from model years '93-'96. The Supplement Manual is part #99924-1240-55, and covers the KLX250 and D-Tracker from 1999-2005. The paperwork that came with my '06 indicates that my bike is a KLX250-H6, which the manual claims is an '04. At any rate, those are the correct manuals. They're lousy, but they are the correct ones. The KLX was not "new for '06", just new to the States.

can i get by with just the supplement or do i need to get both? i just bought the supplement on ebay for $25 which is less than half of the cost of the main service manual. i'm hoping that this manual will be enough as i'm fairly cheap.

I bought mine off eBay for $15 delivered. That was new in wrap! There are some dealers selling them so called "new" w/minor shop wear & "'dust" fromsitting on the shelf for $45

Send them an offer for $15, If they don't want to take it, let them keep it. Another one will always turn up!

Nobody bid on mine & I bought it before the auction ended!

I just need the supplement now! What did that run you?

No, if anything you could get by with just the manual, the supplement only covers differences which aren't many. The front fork comes to mind as one of the diffs. The supplement has an updated electrical schematic but it is largely unchanged also.

But everything else like valve check and adjust procedures, top end stuff, bottom end stuff, clutch and all that gorf is in the main manual.

I agree, the manual for the old models has all the info you need for maint. The supplement was almost a waste of $20. I can count on one hand the number of times the supplement has been actually useful. I don't even take it to the garage with me, just the main manual.

Yes that's exactly what my dealer told me and that's exactly what I got. I also agree that Kawi manuals to suck but they are certainly better than nothing.

They had to order it as they didn't have it in stock. The manual was $50.96 and the supplement was $27.16. He gave me 15% off list as I bought the bike there.
