Default Switched 12V Wire For Heated Grips

Hey guys - I'm looking to wire some heated grips on my 2009 KLX250s to a switched 12V source and not tie it right to the battery in case I forget to turn them off. If I'm reading the wiring diagram correctly, for ground I should be able to tap into any black-yellow wire. If I wanted to tap into the tail light (not brake light), would I tap into the red wire or the black/white wire? Not sure which is tail and which is brake...

Thanks!

I'm going with Red. I think.
You need one of those test lights with the sharp end to ***** through insulation into the wire to see which one is live.
Heated grips are great!

I used a test light and found a switched wire going back to the tail light. I though the color was white/brown but I could be mistaken. From your diagram though I would think the red also.

I had an old Heat Troller that I had on my Bandit that I used to control the grip temp. Works great. I also installed a fuse block I got from Eastern Beaver that has 2 switched circuits and one constant. I have the grips on one of the switched and the charger pigtail on the constant.

Thanks for the responses guys! I found a test light and identified a ground (Black/yellow) up at the headlight and also found that the red wire is the tail light and the other is the brake light. That is a super helpful tool! I think I should be able to knock this out now!

I ended up getting all of the hardware installed last night. I just need to go to the store and buy some of those quick splice clip things to make it happen.

I think mine are the Tusk units at about 20W. Installed on the KLR and KLX.
Fancy Oxford adjustable temp grips on the Vstrom.
