Default Slight cracking/impurity?

So I just did the first oil change on my klx, and when I pulled the filter I noticed 2 things........
1 - the back of the case on the engine looks and feels like there is slight hairline cracking from the middle heading towards the outer edges.
2 - there was a spring on the front of the filter that shot the old one out with great force. I can't seem to get the new filter back in with that spring balanceday on top and the filter seems to fit just fine without the spring. Could the spring be the cause of the potential cracks? It the spring necessary?
I can't seem to upload the pictures for some reason but it will keep trying. Thanks for any advice/help in advance.

It's probably just casting flash. The spring is important. I 'adjusted' the base of the spring to stay attached to the cover-works just fine.

What GBAUTO said. I used to use a small dab of grease to hold the spring in place but eventually bent/opened the spring a bit at the base and it holds nicely in place

Correct, small bend will hold it in place

Picture of the crack like feature in question would be helpful.

Can't get a pic on here to save my life, but I did have the shop look into it for me and was assured it's not cracking or anything to worry about. I did get the spring back in place after much trial and error. Next time I will use the grease tactic for sure. Thankso for the help
