Suit yourself. Sargent makes high quality seats. I sat on one for four years and 60k miles on another bike.

I also know that they depend on bike owners to help them design products by loaning their bikes. Maybe someone here can help them get a pre '09 into production.

Yes they do but so does Corbin. And Corbin right from the start stated that it was for the '09 only. Sargent does not make an exclusive product; I have no use for such a misleading company who jerks people around due to their lack of research.

Do you or anyone else know if Renazco still does seats for the KLX?

Yes they will re-do an existing seat for the KLX250.
Renazco Dual Sport Seats
Send seat pan in to them and wait 6-8 weeks, $350 to $375 +$25 to $35 shipping.

I am thinking about Fisher, Fisher Seats - Custom Aftermarket Motorcycle Seat Modification
$220+shipping with a new cover, $180+ shipping with no new cover. Return shipped a week after they get the seat pan.

This is what I saw back in May and June.

[the website indicates the seats will be available for:
Kawasaki 2006+ KLX250 S / 2009+ 250 SF

and website (updated May 2011) says they are still targeting late spring/early summer.....will call tomorrow and ask what the newest information is.]

Then the website was changed to show only 2009+

Fisher looks like a good choice....here is an email I got from him about a month ago...$250+ for a complete new seat....$30 more, but you do not have to pay to ship existing pan to them or wait without a seat on your bike and will have the old seat just in case.

Here is a photo of a 11" wide KLX300R(picture is back on page 3). It is the same style of seat, only a bit taller and more narrow than the 250s stock seat. Once we reshape them though, they look similar to this, depending on the cover. The 250s has a fairly wide seat pan and tall sides so we can make this seat 11"+ wide. Our info sheet and order form online have some useful information. Plus, some of that information is useful to us to give any guidance about what customizations you may want. Also, if you're going to need a new cover, we do have a couple of these seats here to build off of if a complete seat interests you. They are $250+ depending on the mods you want.

Do they modify the actual seat pan for support?

No, but the existing foam is actually a little narrower than the seat pan is.
So they can put foam on there that is wider than the original foam and slightly wider than the pan, an inch or so on each side is my guess. They say they can go 11+ inch wide on our pans....
