Question regarding muffler/headpipe/jetting
Hi Klxster... I have been reading that thread, I was hoping for success by doing so! ha! " so, you think you're the boss, and you want that biggy power....." in fact, that thread had me double checking the caps on the smog delete for one..
"So here is the cold hard truth about intalling a carb jetting kit or jetting components -
If your bike ran perfectly fine before you took the carb apart, and you are using a known working setup, and it doesn't run well after, you've done something wrong or something went wrong during your handling of the carb, and was not detected."

Yeah, I try/attempt to motivate folks toward a productive troubleshooting with a little humor + "straight to the point" verbiage..
You will find and fix your issue as it is a "biggy" .. Killing the engine with any throttle opening should be relatively easy to find..

Well... I had a sneaking su****ion after reading this.....
"There is a brass "collar" sitting above the Emulsion Tube. This is the Needle Jet. It protrudes into the carb bore and it is the first item the needle slides in and out of below the slide. It will likely fall out after you remove the Emulsion Tube. If you leave it out or install it upside down, it's "game over" until you go back in and do it right."...... -Klxster, CVK34 list of issues, problems, fixes, post #14
And sure enough......
After I went ahead and removed the carb, (instead of trying to twist), there it was...I picked up my needle jet, dropped it in and re-assembled.
Now it starts AND runs past 1/4 turn, imagine that!!!! I haven't gotten out for a real ride but I putted around the property with no seat or plastic, and all seems good.

Well, I have been able to do a few quick errands after work, and actually open up the klx a little bit. Seems like it liked the jetting, pulls nicely by my standards.
Only question I would pose to those who are more experienced is this... If I really wrap it out, right at 10k or so it will stumble and drop off(best terms I can think of) I don't have a go pro, or I would just post quick vid. I curious if this is normal, and most times I don't push it that hard anyways, but I just thought I would see what you guys think?
Aside from that, I would like to thank S10gto again for that header, and Klxster and everyone else for being helpful and patient with my inexperience. Thanks!!

You're probably hitting the rev limiter at 10,500, its easy to do without realizing it, our tach isnt the best or fastest reacting.
Without any way to measure AFR, you'd have to +1 or -1 the main jet to see if it gets any better.

Your hitting the rev-limiter - for the first time.. This is a common occurrence with a newly installed Lidless setup - to accidentally hit the rev limiter...
Once your "subconscious" re-tunes to the new powerband, you'll stop doing it by accident..

gotcha...it just cuts you off and keeps you out of the red(electronically)? well, Im sure I will get used to it like you say, and I will see what I can do with that p-bomb(repair), and work up the guts/research and understanding to do the MCM at some point, but in the meantime, I am happy most of all to be confident I am not doing hidden damage by running way too lean!
E.T.A. Klxster, I couldn't help but wonder if you knew that my needle jet was out, and where wondering how long it would take me to figure it out? I don't blame you if you where! my dad used to frustrate the heck out of me by not answering my questions, but instead, insisting/helping me look it up...ha!!!

No XCR, I would have told you in a minute if I'd known that THAT was likely your problem.
I was kinda thinking that you may have gotten a "wrong" pilot jet..
Aside from not getting a diaphragm seated well once, on a members carb, I've not made any mistakes with my carb sessions - but this is only because I'm old and have been tweaking/rebuilding all kinds of carbs for 40+ years..
So, I'll make a confession - That thread I posted to help with troubleshooting - A lot of those posts were the result a mental exercise of imagining what all could possibly go wrong during a carb session.. And the Needle jet - I put that in there because I remember that once, it fell out while I was handling my carb.. I put it right back in, so not a problem for me, but I imagined that others may not be working on their carb in a "safe & secure" environment. And that a missing needle jet may go unnoticed or even un-found.. I really had no idea what symptoms you get when you leave if out - now I do.. And the symptoms are surprising..

That thread really was useful, I knew as soon as I read that post that I needed to quit messing around with the twist and pull it all the way out and really be able to see, especially with little to no background knowledge.
Actually, the truth is, I am hoping that my experience (or lack thereof) could be helpful for the next person that is not a carb guru but still wants to give it a whack. That symptom for one, as well as the likely hood of the needle jet falling out and becoming misplaced. Also, the the spring lengths, and pilot jet being called "slow jet" by some sources, etc, that is the neat part about the age we live in in my opinion. The MCM seems like a great example!
