Default Problem Drilling Airbox?

Well I started doing the mods today. Had no problem with carb mod, or drilling exhaust, but I hate to ask a dumb question and sound like the village idiot, but how do you drill the airbox? I can't get a drill close enough because there is aroundcross frame pieceright in the way. I tried to take off the airbox but gave up on that. Do you need a special tool? HELP!

I did it by reaching the drill bit up in there and turning it by hand as far as possible. Then used a pair of needle nose vise grips to finish the job. The bit will want to just thread on there so you will need to work it a little to be able to spin the bit freely. Be sure and vacuum and/or blow out all the shavings. Sounds like a pain, but not that bad and can be done in about 15 minutes.

Thanks, I thought I was losing my mind. It sounded so easy I didn't even question the "how to" part when I read the mods. I'll get back on it first thing tomorrow. Can't wait to see how it runs.

Some guys are just heating the drill bit up and pushing the bit through. It also saves from having to clean up on shavings.

If you'd rather spend five minutes on this mod, here is a socket wrench mod to help with your airbox mod. Socket wrench, 10mm socket, Gorilla tape, 3/8" drill bit = win.

Love the ingenuity. I don't know if this mod really has a benefit (I did mine way back), but if you're going to do it, the ratchet wrench looks like a good way to go.

I heated the drive end of the bit with a propane torch while holding the bit with vice grips. Poked the hot bit in the hole. Nuttin to it.
