Back in '88 I did a full year as a motorcycle courier (London dispatch rider) on this Z1300. Chopped down exhaust this bike had big presence driving through Piccadilly circus at 80mph with tourists leaping out of the way.....NO speed cameras then!! Totally unique in it's day to be tearing around London up against the CB250 super dreams, CX500's, VT500 & GT550's! Probably the only bike I didn't look to big on.....lol

So-so, lol. The 450 isn't the do-it-all dual-sport that the KLX250S is. It's purely offroad, like a Honda CRF450X or a Yamaha WR450F.
The 450 is only a 5-speed, but with the stock gearing it did pretty well on the street. However, 1st gear was way too tall for the trails I ride. I dropped the gearing to make it more rideable on my trails, but that takes away from 5th. The way it is right now, I'm turning about 7-8K RPMs (it doesn't have a tach) to run 55 mph indicated, but it revs to the moon and makes so much power that it has a bunch left over if you wanted it.
Compared to the 250, the little KLX has a much broader spread of gear ratios. The 250 can go from singletrack to cruising 65 mph with the same final gearing. With the 450, you have to decide which you want to do, then change the gearing accordingly. With the proper gearing and sumo wheels, I'd probably lose my license on the 450.
I only dual-sported it to connect the trails and to ride the organized dual-sport rides, so I don't ride much highway with it at all. Offroad, it's a hoot, and that's what I wanted it for anyway.
