Oil filter spring trick to hold in place?

Bent the spring on mine. Works like a champ and don't need to use grease or lay the bike down (I tend to do that mostly out on the trails :-)

Just wondering: would it be possible to magnetize the spring? maybe it would then hold itself in place along with catching any metal contaminants.
