Default Oil Filter Spring

Hello, Marc from RI here. 50 years young getting back into dirt riding after not riding in the dirt after several years. Just got a 2007. Just changed the oil on it. What gives with the stupid spring. How do you keep that in place when you put the filter in. Yes these bikes are all choked up and I am in the procees of ordering the parts required to unclog it. It is all coming back to me and I cannot wait to get the suspension dialed in and unleash the beast in this bike. This forum is great and you guys are full of knowledge. Thanks

some use a dab of grease to hold it in.... myself, i just lay the bike on its side and put the spring in then put it back to gether and let gravity do its thing.... dont like adding grease to the oil system....

Just use long nose pliers and widen one end of the spring so it wedges into place, no need to use grease or lay the bike on its side...I did it today..try it...

+1, I just opened the end of the spring and stuffed it back into the fingers. Stays in there nicely.

I have to go with EMS_0525 on this subject... It is so easy for me to just lay the bike down and change the filter.. takes about 10sec. to get the job done and your back up-right before you know it.

+1 on this subject, took all of 30 seconds to spread the spring out just a tad, works perfectly without the possibility of any side effects and once it's done, it's done.
