New tire for sure, even he just rides it on the street, having an old tire on the street can make for a nasty crash...with cars around to finish him off.

Well update... We put on that old new tire..
It's been stored well inside on a rack of tires..
It was perfect we looked it all over..
I'm sure the Majority of folks that go get tires never look at the Mfg. Date..

A 5 year old tire may be new but not fresh and I would never consider it on a sport bike. I assumed you were talking about off road or ds use, ask this question on a sport bike forum and see what the folks have to say.

go look at a rack of tires at a shop that sells a lot of them. Ask which is most popular then look at the date of manufacture on them - you might be surprised when you see tires a couple of years old from the warehouse.

Like I said how many people look at the date..
As said Tire was inside, stored on a rack not a nail or hook.. So It is a new Tire just old date.. Just was a intresting ?
