Well, seeing that you eventually went with a 45T, I doubt it would be consideredunnecessary in your case...NO??? These mods, being performance or asthetics are all pretty muchbased finally on what you want as the rider. There are so many combinations of mods that when -not- taken into account the riders ability, location and financial HOLE,one cannot say definatley one way is better than the other. For me it was an easy decision because I'm getting tires,so it all has to go anyway.Green Gypsy specifically asked about the 45T (which is 3 up from stock-no?), not the 13T--So saying it is meaningless pretty much just takes what I just bought and the advice I just gaveas B/S and YOU-- are right??
Sorry if I sound harsh, but I spent alot of time researching this from some sound advice from this board. Ifinally took the plunge and spent over$300.. and to hear that all this was unnecessary and meaningless just rubs me the wrong way I guess.[:@]
So take no offense from my post, but use it as constructive criticism....ok???

i eventually went 45 in the rear with the 13 up front and this is the best ratio imofor the bike because it puts it into the meat of the power quicker and gives you more low end.
buying a larger rear sprocket is really meaningless unless you go up at least 3 teeth
if you want to spend unnecessary moneygo ahead, but if you want a cheap, easy, immedately effective mod, then the13 tooth with stock rear and chain is the way to go.

Buy a 13t front sprocket and keep the stock rear. You will save money and you willput the rpm range into the meat of the torque. I have this set up with the free mods and I weight about 265, and I can run all day at seventy miles and hour with no problems. And it will pull a wheelie in 1st and second gear. Duane 5157

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
I also purchased tires and some Lite-N-Boltz for a rear end clean-up project. Have you seen them? Pretty cool lights for the plates if your state requires. And some other nic nacs made the whole purchase $300. (tubes, rimlocks, spoons, new rear fender bag etc.etc.)
Overall, I'm pretty excited and can't wait to get it all together. I'm Really thinking the 45Twill help add that little extra something when stuck on those tight sections. Plus I'll be getting rid of the stock pouch with a new bigger one.............................

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
All this talk of sprockets made me take a look at whats on mine and i was surprised to see a 14/50 setup i checked the manual and that is right for a UK spec 250R model but i'll be dammed if i can get the front wheel to lift without a large handfull of throttle and clutch dump which surprised me, after reading what you guys are writing.

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
Be sure and post some pictures when you get done....Sounds like some good stuff.
I just bought a 48t sprocket and 110 link chain. Wanted similar to the 13/45 ratio and figured if I was buying a chain and sprocket anyway, might as well go back to the factory CS with dampner.

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
Thanks for all the feedback on the 45t question. I think I will stick with this setup. I want to stay with the front because of chain noise. My dealer cost for 45t and gold chain (renthal) is about 150 dollars. They are putting everthing on when I go for 250 mile valve set. Will post pictures and feedback when these mods are done.CANT WAIT!!!!

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
i'm also about to order the 48 rear sprocket and 110 chain and kenda k772 tire. i've confused myself over and over tryin to figure out wat sprocket sizes to go with now im tryin to figure out if i should go with a 120/100/18, 110/100/18 or the stock. i read on here that a larger tire may take away some torque so now im tryin to make my mind up about that.

RE: New Muzzy and 45t question
I went with a 120 as have many on this board...........Trakmasters.
I figure I could use the wider footprint, and hopefully the 45T sprocket will more than compensate for any loss .
Decisions...Decisions...........they'll drive ya crazy right? Who wants to spend their hard earned money and not be satisfied. I guess we all just gotta take a shot and enjoy the hobby no matter the outcome.
I'll post back as soon as I get all the stuff put on....the 45T and the 120 rear tire that is.
