Default New KLX owner looking for aftermarket accessories

Hey all, new to the forum. Just picked up a 2012 KLX 250 the other day and looking to add some more protection and lighting to it. I think I've found most of the stuff I want but just want to check if anyone here is already using it and can confirm an easy install.

What kind of skid plate do you guys use? I see 3 or 4 of them that fit but if someone here has one that they know is plug and play and requires no other drilling or anything for the oil holes to be usable.

Are there any handguards that won't require me to mess with the grips and levers to install them?

If I want to install LED turn signals, will I only need to buy a new flasher to make them work?

Any other kind of engine protection you guys use? When I search for case savers I find stuff that protects the chain, what about protection for the actual engine case?

I see Deej has stickied some repair manuals, but is there a paper version of it I can buy anywhere? I'd prefer having a paper one to getting dirty fingers on my laptop trackpad.

Congrats on the new bike. If it has the stock bars and grips you will have a small issue installing new grips or barkbusters. One of the best brands of barkbusters to fit the KLX is the actual "Barkbuster Jet" brand. The mounts are multi-adjustable and they are less than $100.00. The OEM stock bars have a welded sleeve in the end for vibration and reinforcement. This can be a problem for many trying to install barkbusters. You have to tap the end of the bars with a M8 x 1.25 tap. I just did it. Take your time and use some oil. Many take off the stock bars on go with some aftermarket bars that don't have the crossbar incorporated into it. Lots of options for skid-plates. Most don't take more than five minutes to take off. There is another forum out there also that has tons of information on long-term KLX 250s. The stock grips from Kawasaki on molded onto the bar and throttle tube. A pain to remove but can be done. I've done two sets on mine and my wifes bike. Enjoy and let us know what type of mods if any have already been done to your bike. Send some photos also.

For skid plates, I’ve got a Ricochet. It’s bulletproof. I’ve smashed it good on rocks again and again and no problems. Many love the Emperor Racing skid plate. I would have bought it if not for the great deal I found on the Ricochet. Both mount up no problem.
