Default New to the Forum - 2010 KLX250SF Blue ( I have ?s lol)

Hi, i am new to owning a motorcycle and im excited to join this community and forum, i would like to thank all of those who have contributed to this forum and helped build it with useful and entertaining information. I do have some question and i hope some of you can take the time to help me out. Thanks in advance.

I just purchased a 2010 KLX250sf with 5k miles, fender eliminator, carbon turn signal, DG exhaust and a terrible sticker kit on it lol. I paid $3,000 for the bike, their isnt any noticable damage on the bike, and the motor looks very clean.

Was the purchase price fair ?
Is it normal for the small white tank under the rear fender to be dead empty?
Is 5k miles alot for this 2010 engine ?
Is a DG exhaust respectable and quality ?
What should i inspect on this used bike ?
What immediate maintenance should i perform on this bike ?
What are common problems/ issues with this year & model ?
Is this bike considered a SuperMoto ?
Is this bike respected by others being that it is only a 250cc ?
Where can i buy a graphics/sticker kit for this bike ?
What type of gas grade should i use ?
What type of oil should i use ?
Can i raise the rear suspension spring up/higher ?
What is the best product for shining and cleaning up the plastics?
What is the best way to remove the graphics kit stickers that are currently on ?
When negatives are there when/after removing the graphics off the plastics ?

Wow, that's a lot of questions to open with. I'll just say welcome for now.

Quote "Is it normal for the small white tank under the rear fender to be dead empty?"no it isn't, it should be half full with coolant, have you checked the coolant level in the radiator?

and welcome to the forum

Hi, good to welcome another SuMo SF to the forum. I'll have a go at answering a couple of question......Remember it's all there to see if you use the search bar effectively.

There should always be at least 2 inches of coolant mix in the overflow bottle. Wouldn't hurt to drop the coolant from your rads & replace with a 50/50 pre-mix & pop in a new thermostat, a good thing to do with any new secondhand bike purchase.
BTW It looks terrible from behind....a white plastic bottle with fluid sploshing around!! I painted mine matt black & left the inside panel (facing the wheel) clear for inspection purposes....visually looks 100% better from behind now

Is this bike considered a SuperMoto ?
IMO the SF is a little bit under powered for road riding without a big bore kit.....great off-roader but dubious SuperMoto in stock form!!
The stock suspension is way to soft for a real SuMo bike.....front end dives like crazy under hard braking & the whole suspension spring package reminds me of being on a rocking horse!!
The front & rear springs can be replaced & clicker settings can be hardened with good results.....some links below:

BTW if your ordering parts from Asia/Japan for your bike it's called a D-TrackerX or a DTx250....apart from EFi instead of a carb, the SF is identical.

I bought a few items from this company in Japan when I couldn't find stuff in the US or ebay!

Is 5k miles alot for this 2010 engine ? Expect 20k+ from what I read
Is a DG exhaust respectable and quality ?One of the first mods I did, sounds great, I like it a lot on mine
What should i inspect on this used bike ?Sprockets, chain, tires, brakes, clutch cable.
What immediate maintenance should i perform on this bike ? OIL!
What are common problems/ issues with this year & model ? I'm not knowledgeable enough to know this answer
Is this bike considered a SuperMoto ? Some say yes, some say no, I say it has 17" rims, its a sumo
Is this bike respected by others being that it is only a 250cc ? For what it is, it's great, most sumo guys won't give you **** for a 250, but I ran with a modded drz400 today, when he wanted to, he could out pull me with ease
Where can i buy a graphics/sticker kit for this bike ? No clue
What type of gas grade should i use ? It says 91, I use 89
What type of oil should i use ? Whatever you can afford, changing more often is more important and than expensive oils imho
Can i raise the rear suspension spring up/higher ? no clue
What is the best product for shining and cleaning up the plastics? Windex?
What is the best way to remove the graphics kit stickers that are currently on ? I want to say hairdryer and patience, but i may be wrong
Nice bike btw

Thanks for your reply, NO i have not checked the radiator yet. But to have coolant in the overflow tank, does that mean i have to pour it into that tank or the overflow tanks fills up from the radiator being filled ?

Thanks for your help, i normally like to use the search feature on forums in order to find multiple threads, this time i was too excited after purchasing the bike lol

OK i thought so, because when i saw it bone dry i did not think that was normal. I would like to perform a coolant flush and possibly the thermostat but....
Which coolant can i use ? kawasaki brand ?
Where can i buy a new thermostat ?
Any DIY on how to perform these procedures ?

BTW It looks terrible from behind....a white plastic bottle with fluid sploshing around!! I painted mine matt black & left the inside panel (facing the wheel) clear for inspection purposes....visually looks 100% better from behind now I guess we think alike lol because i told my self the same exact thing, i had already planned to paint or plasti-dip the over flow white coolant tank black so the tail of the bike looks much nicer. I am for sure doing this lol

Yea a 250 is not the fastest lol and i know my buddies will be ripping past me, but for my first street legal bike im sure i will enjoy it. I will also be aware of how the suspension feels now that you have mentioned it.

BTW if your ordering parts from Asia/Japan for your bike it's called a D-TrackerX or a DTx250....apart from EFi instead of a carb, the SF is identical.^WOW this is GOOD info !!
