Just chiming in about fuses - they are not solely for the benefit of the protected device (Vapor). It could be the vapor that shorts, or the connector or wires close to it.
The fuse is there to protect the charging system and battery as well from that short, which could burn a wire or worse.

So, moral of the story, always wire in a fuse and put it close to the battery.
