You know that plate is only .15" thick on the bottom and .11" on the sides? Its as thin as a pizza tin, probably wouldn't take many hits and would be destroyed. Another reason why i want to make one myself.

Also has too many holes in it to catch stuff, branches etc. Ricochet FTW.

IMHO the Emperor?Empire? (used to be Scorpion) is one of the best because it can take a serious hit, I can change the oil or coolant with it on, and did I mention it can take a serious hit?!
Mine has been rung like a bell so loud that those ahead stopped to see what had happened to the bike...only to see more motoring ahead through a rock field. It has been bent by hits but only slightly.

mtnman - looking forward to see what you come up with. Make sure to put some closed cell foam tape on the frame before mounting the plate up tight - it will keep it much quieter.

It looks like Ricochet, Moose and Utah plates are all the same, with 5/32" aluminum. Mine has taken serious beatings.

already got that in mind. Since a company i used to Rep for made the stuff, i have a dozen or so sales samples 3'x5'x 1/2" sheets of closed cell polyolafin insulation. I have used the stuff for sound proofing my classic cars, early bronco hardtops i used to have ect. Its really works well on the roof under the headliner on older cars and wont hold any moisture.

The ones with holes in looks like a kawasaki one to me. I have one on my klx at the moment. It's ok and has taken some big hits. The holes in it are a pain as they just collect mud and crop. I have a b&b bash plate waiting to be fitted. They are based in Australia and there products are good.

If you can find a piece of aluminum the size you need for $10 , you will be off to a very good start. When i made my skidplate i had big ideas of saving a few bucks, and having the satisfaction of making my own skidplate. I had it all designed before i realized that the piece of aluminum i needed would cost me about $70, or almost as much as buying the Utah skidplate. luckily I ended up getting a piece for free. I still had the satisfaction of making my own but if I did it again I would buy one. Not trying to dissuade you from making your own, I love to see the home made stuff

I did a write up on mine here
