That is only .125 thick aluminum and it was tough to bend with what i had. Unless you have access to heavier duty tools , bending brakes etc. anything over .125 thick will be tough

I had it all designed before i realized that the piece of aluminum i needed would cost me about $70, or almost as much as buying the Utah skidplate. luckily I ended up getting a piece for free. I still had the satisfaction of making my own but if I did it again I would buy one. Not trying to dissuade you from making your own, I love to see the home made stuff

I did a write up on mine here

nice job, i was going to make mine to bolt up the to frame bolts as you did. I like the idea of making it out of steel diamond plate, which i will do and then powercoat it at home. It should be indestructible. Plus, i prefer to make things myself if i can, just for the satisfaction of doing so and no one else has one quite like it.

Nothing is more satisfying than making things rather than buying. I made two in the pic 2nd and fifth from the left. Much easier buying one for sure

Well i chickened out, not really...lol I was thinking how long it would be for me to get to the plate project and it would be a while as i have many ranch projects before it. And then i got an email from Emperor racing this morning for signing up on their newsletter. I got 5 bucks off first order and 20% off the scorpion heavy duty plate, too good to pass up and the scorpion was the only one i was interested in, besides making my own.

Are they still using the Scorpion? They are Emperor now, so maybe a crown.

I believe its still the scorpion, the Emperor scorpion( which is just called something different than it was for pirelli). Freekin Pirelli took them to court for using the scorpion logo, talk about control freaks with nothing better to do....
From the website Description
Tig welded wings with an Emperor scorpion logo carved into each side for bling factor
