One question I do have is "Should" the cams be removed to perform the mod, my concern is the torquing down of the cam gear bolts potentially harming the cam bearing surface when the pressure is applied?
If it's a non issue i'd rather complete the mod with the cams in the head.

Cheers
No, you don’t remove the cams, just the cam sprocket bolts. Set the piston to top dead Center using the timing marks on the magneto, Remove the cam chain tensioner bolt first, remove cam sprocket bolts(don’t drop)(do one sprocket at a time), wiggle off sprockets one at a time, ‘walk’ into position. A little fiddly, a little tight but doable.

Won't hurt the cam journals, plus the torque is relatively low due to the size of the fastener. I will say I did my adjustment off the bike, because I figured with my luck I'd drop one of the bolts in the engine . I loosened them while in the head, then pulled them and took the sprockets loose moving them and putting the bolts back in before putting the cams back in, then torquing them while in the bike. I was also adjusting the valve shims so I had to take the cams out anyway. I just don't trust my butter fingers...

Excellent thanks for info!!
Now to pull the carb first and see whats been done by the previous owner to make sure I don't make any minor issues worse

I've removed the CCT, but there is still no play in my camchain, is that normal? mine is 2013 EFI with 5000kms

now I'm stuck since its reallyreallyreally hard to nudge the gear out since there is no slack in the chain, anyway my cam chain would rattle really hard @ 5-6k rpms tho

You can try removing the sub chain tensioner, then you will have enough chain slack.

I'd look somewhere else. Without a tensioner there should be a lot of play in the cam chain.
