I could've edited my original post, but hey I'm desperate for posts as I'm nearing 100.
I realize the KLX and DRZhave different sized engines and therefore it isn't really fair to compare the two. But, also you have to call a nail a nail, and beins that they're really the only two majordual-sportDIRT BIKESon the market they will get compared to a lot (I don't consider TE's and KTM's dual-sport bikes). So when I say things about howthe power of the DRZ overwhelms what the KLX can make with any mods, I know it isn't fair but when one is looking to buy one of these two bikes, that may be a deal breaker for one. The DRZ is a larger bike all around while making tons more power (see, there I go) but the KLX is more flickable during wheely maneuvers and things of that nature. The DRZ "S"is a more substantial motorcycle, but the KLX is more off-road mannered (I'm leaving out the DRZ "E" in this comparison). Kind of like comparing a ZR2 S10 pickup to a larger Silverado with the Z71. The ZR2 will go practically anywhere unlike the larger, heavier Silverado; but the Silverado has tons more power and is better for the long haul. Can you understand that analogy? I realize the ZR2 is discontinued, but having owned two in my pre-children years, I think they're awesome little 4x4 trucks.

The thing is it's really hard to objectivly compare the KLX to the DRZ. They are apples and oranges. It would be like me throwing my XL600 into the comparrison. I think that the awesome powerof the XL is nothing short of an adrenaline rush, but I have not and don't anticipate riding it on the track or trails. It is a little awkward in the handling department. The KLX on the other hand is so easy to manuver that it makes it way fun in the tight trails and on the jumps. It's just a well ballanced bike that with few mods has the power to be so much fun.
I think that there are those who gauge everything on power. But less power and more rideabilitymakes the difference on how you feel physically at the end of the day. When I don't have to put out as much effort to ride, I'm having more fun.
Just my thoughts.

 

This is just like the old what is better arguement,Chevy or ford.You can ask 100 people that ride bikes and each is going to have their opinion of what make 1 bike better than another.I have a riding buddy that owned a drz-s plated and he now rides a KTM 300,he took my klx out for a ride and came back and said if he had ridden one sooner he would have had one instead of both his previous ones.He agreed like the rest of us that although it isn't a powerhouse it is very nimble and comfortable. My $.02
