Just some BS.... drz vs.....
The 400E is supposed to be the one with the well sorted suspension. It is also the one that weighs the same as the KLX. Not the'S'...or the 'SM' like someonekeeps claiming, IG.
You know better, so why keep saying it?

I'm not sure on how the DRZ suspension is (S model) but on www.advrider.com they were well liked and you see many shots of them flying higher than any of the KLX air shots I've seen over here. Albeit the rider never comments on how the landing was.

I had a 250 Honda with a stroker kit and sold it for a DR 350. What a mistake. The Dr seemed top heavy on the trails and wasn't any faster. The only advantage was it could be licensed. I like my KLX a lot better. The DRZ might be better I've never ridden one.
the suspension the SM has is different, more road oriented than the E model but still better than the KLX's by light years (stouter, more adjustable, RMZ derived). the E DRZ weighs the same as the KLX with a ton more power and torque, you make your own judgements about that. DS'ing an E model isn't hard and these guys know it who keep knocking me down on the weight thing. The E DRZ old conventional forks are ugly, but they are supposed to be excellent forks according to most DRZ riders. sounds like your in the closet EMS? the power to weight ratio is still better on the DS DRZ than the KLX by a ton. I'm not going to argue about this in respect to EMS' wishes but I'll answer any questions truthfully about both bikes and comparing the two. I think there's a couple others on here who have had both. The DRZ is a more modern engine as far as when it came out (2000) and hasn't had any major problems. It's the same one used in the LTZ quad so you know it's pretty stout.

what do you mean? im not thinking of selling and going to the drz. I love my klx. Just started this post because thats all everyone seems to be buying.... I guess the main sellng point is the big displacement, and you can pick one up pretty cheap.

Just curious since you really have the information alot don't on both bikes since you've owned them, but it sounds like the DRZ is a far better bike the way you describe it.
Okay, let me put it in very clear, neutral terms also. If I could have a DRZ "S" model with the SM's inverted forks I would but that is not possible. There's pros and cons of each bike when comparing the two. I guess I've kind of started the comparo to both bikes since I've owned both. I love the power of the DRZ but hated that it would have cost me a ton to buy off road wheels/tires for it. I love the KLX and the way it looks but hate what you have to do to it to get additional power and even then it doesn't even compare to the power of a stock DRZ. The KLX is more flickable but the DRZ is a ton more stable on-road due to the S and SM's 29lb. surplus over the KLX. I guess I could've had my "dream" DRZ had I shelled out $800 or so for wheels/tires, but that isn't the reason I bought an SM. I could've bought a TE250 which I actually had planned on doing until I test rode the SM. I loved it's torque and the rest is history. But in retrospect when I think of how much fun I had on the KLX and the DRZ and what it cost me, the KLX wins hands down. It was cheaper and I wasn't afraid to take it off-road and rub it's plastic up against the weeds. The DRZ otoh, was a mixture of a sportbike and kind of had a "prettyish" appeal to it so therefore couldn't serve double duty for me. Plus I didn't want to sink a grand in wheels/tires because I didn't want to get rid of the stock Excel SM rims cuz those made the bike. Didn't want to take it away from the bike. Otherwise I would've bought the S model. In hindsight, I probably should've and then sought out some RMZ forks for it. But the seat height on the S model is a lot higher...............yada yada yada. They're both good bikes. The new KLX in red I'm thinking is going to be in my garage come March or April, can't stop looking at it.[&o]
EMS- I was just jabbin' at ya. I know how much you love your KLX dude.

IG i think it is interesting that you had both and want the klx back.... Everyone i have ridden with lately wanted to take my bike for a spin, everyone liked it, the guy who rides the wr426 actually liked it, he said it doesnt have gobs of power but seems very controlable. I guess maybe being around all these bigger cc bikes maybe i just needed some reassurance of the very capable klx, so what if its only a 250. I ride it better, and have more control of it over the guys on their drz's and ktm's... I was just wondering if there was something i was missing, something amazing with the drz. Guess not. Thanks for not turning this post into an arguement.
Thats what i thaught you meant by that comment, like hoedogg said thats the only meaning i know to that phrase... its all in good fun [8D] I was just like "Hes not trying to say what i think hes trying to say is he?" lol.... do i have to post a pic of my WIFE again?
