Just a question for the present:
This being the KLX250 not withstanding,
would you rather have a KDX220 with a pipe and carb mods, or
a KLX250 with a 351 kit, carb mods and a pipe?
The future of my riding my depend on the answers of my friends.
Rock on.

The answer might depend a great deal on exactly what kind of riding you're going to do. Is the KDX220 going to be street legal also for your needs...and can you get it street legal in your state? The KLX250 is by no means a Gold Wing or such for long distance slabbing, but it's going to be better suited to more pavement than the KDX IMO. If you're talking straight dirt use only, I think the easy choice is the KDX. One element that can come into play is the 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke preference. I raced 2-strokes in enduros for many years, but at a certain point I just had a desire to ride 4-strokes. The 2-strokes were still faster back then, but we don't always have to adhere to 100% logic.
The motor is not the only determining thing. Weight, chasis, suspension, typical riding area, and skill level all have to be factored in. Picking one or the other is such a personnel choice that your the only one who can answer that. I've owned both and would go with the KLX but that's me. The 4 stroke motor fits my skill level better. If I had to I could get along with the KDX just fine.
