So, the wife just let me know what my Christmas present for the year is... a 2007 Ninja 500R!

She bought me a seat in the next local MSF course, starting this Thursday. I can't begin to say how excited I am.

So... any tips for a first-time buyer of a motorcycle, or a Ninja in particular?

 

IMO its smart to ride a used bike for a year before buying something brand new.

that way you don't have to worry about it getting scratch if you tip it over/lay it down/etc.

 

I'm under no illusion that this bike will stay pristine for very long. I am, however, wary of getting a used bike that has mechanical or structural problems. It's a tradeoff, and I really don't mind spending an extra couple grand for peace of mind.

 

only other advice since you are taking the msf course is take it easy and enjoy riding. oh and assume that every car on the road is trying to run you over.

 

My advice to you is to tell me if your bride has a hot, available sister between 29 and 44.
