Actually, that's not true anymore. They also have black, which pleases me since I'm stuck with a red bike.

It doesn't cost much to change the color. I think I paid $100 or so for red tank panels (mine came with black).

The IMS fuel tank has a deeper cavity that does away with the stock mounting brackets. The mounting brackets are replaced by molded lugs in the sides of the plastic tank like you see in other plastic tanks.

I disagree - depending on what you're starting with. In order to change a red S model like mine to green, you need to replace the radiator shrouds, the front fender, the rear fender (stub), the headlight cover, and the decals on the side covers. Buying new parts, that amounts to a lot of cash. Used parts aren't exactly common or cheap either.

Drained the IMS tank so I could measure the exact capacity. Shook the bike back & forth to make sure it was empty.

Using the ultra precise scientific calibrated one gallon plastic milk jug, I was able to fill the completely empty tank with the milk jug 3 times. I filled the milk jug right to the bottom of the neck each time.

The not so great picture shows 3 gallons of fuel at the very bottom of the neck of the filler bung.

So this 09 klx250 IMS tank has indeed a true 3.0 gallon capacity. Awesome....no complaints from me.

Was that a Skim, 2%, or Whole Milk Jug?

Close enough for me!
