Yeah these guys suck.

I start a new job next week, so i lose the 3 weeks of vacation i had this year at my current job and have to wait till a year from now to get 1 week vacation from new the job.

Bleh.

When I was back in Pittsburgh this spring I had my shop reset my carbs for the altitude here in Mammoth Lakes, CA (7800' MSL). Using an online chart he set them up for 4000-6000 feet MSL standard (70F 29.92Hg, air idle and pilot jet, no change to the mains because I hardly ever run wide open) and while the off idle stumble is more pronounced and power loss due the altitude is noticeable, the bike runs fairly well. I found a shop in Bishop, CA (4000' MSL) (Chad Banta Repairs) and Chad reset the air idle screws for my altitude and that took some of the stumble off. I tried some easy fixes to get more power, mainly with the air box, no filter lid on, filter in no lid, no lid no filter. each was a big fail. My bike runs 2-30mm CV carbs and with out re-jetting these tricks may have worked (I can tell when the mains kick in at WOT, the motor just about dies). With the above options I couldn't get over 6000 rpm. For me, Chad suggested drilling 1 or 2 small holes in the air box lid (that I can plug with self tapping screws if need be) and work from there. Where I work is at 9000' MSL and have taken the bike up to 10,500 MSL with no problems other than reving to get going. Hope my info helps you some. And next time you plan a trip, look us up. We have a big MX sponsored by Monster Energy and Ford in end of June early July, and tons of trail and off road riding, so much so my next buy will be a KLR 250.
