Help Understanding KLX250s upgrades
Hi all,
I need some help understanding upgrades names, stages and the impact of everything. I am not the "i want to get my bike faster better NOWWW" type.. im really interested in understanding the mechanical aspect.
I have a 2009 KLX250s and i am learning to take care of it myself (filters valve clearance and so on)..
lately i got into the Modding and im kind of into it..
Well i know that when u increase air flow + exhaust modification its called "stage 1"..
where are stages 2 and 3?
i ordered the EJK, upgraded my exhaust (muffler only) and removed the airbox cover (also replaced filter to more open one).
2 last questions, are those "mods" makes the engine wear off sooner?
and what else is stopping the KLX from being full power? (i heard that the muffler is choking the engine so replaced it) and that the engine is running lean stock so im gonna use the EJK to run richer..
Any links to Threads or webpages with info will be really helpful, also if u have paitience to explain ill be happy. thanks!

Look at the resent threads about head work and camshafts, most restriction is the head, not easily remedied.
Stage 2 is upgrade carb or big bore $1000
Stage 3 is big bore or carb or cams $1500
Stage 4 is head work crankcase vent and removing weight with above $2000
Stage 5 is stroking radical cams, compression, aftermarket ignition system. $3000+++++

yea.. EFI model. already ordered EJK waiting for arrival, i guess jetting is like PCv\EJK for EFI?
means i need to increase my air flow so the fuel increase from EJK will have an effect?
besides air filter what else can improve air flow without letting dirt in?
im looking for getting the most from the engine without interfering with its internal parts..
so only stage 1 fits me..

You need to do the Marcelino Cam Mod. See it in our sticky's...
I would argue that "Stage 2" is fully uncorked - meaning no lid, good slip-on, de-smogged, perhaps backfire screen removed, perhaps better air filter, DJ jet kit installed using its' stage 2 instructions. Add the MCM and I's say your stage 2+.

De-Smog is removing the air injection system on the exhaust header. This lowers the header temps and stops the exhaust from melting plastic. Header port is port matching the header flange to the exhaust port on the head. I do not think this mod is beneficial and would not recommend it. I lost responsiveness at low to mid RPMs and perhaps picked up a tiny bit of power way up high. Since I did not do a before and after Dyno test of the port match, I can only offer my opinion on it.
