Default Help, new bike, best deal

I'm shopping around at the moment for a KLX and this is what is out there at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bike number 1
is a 2009 Green KLX with 100 miles (yes thats correct) with new off road tires, fender eliminator, FMF exhaust
Price he's asking 4500 and said he would let it go for $4000. I might be able to do better once I'm there.

Bike 2
2012 Red/Black KLX with 900 miles and FMF slip on
Asking $4200

Bike 3
2008 Green KLX with 2000 miles and FMF exhaust
Asking $3000

I'd take a serious look at the 08. They had a bit more suspension travel and in this case a grand less! You can do a lot with a grand, either to the bike or for something else.

The 09 book is $3095, but the miles and probably the condition makes a difference, but still you can get the 08 for a grand less!

Even the 12 isn't worth a grand more in my book. The only reason to go with it would only be to have the newer bike if you plan to sell it or trade it in the near future. If you plan to keep the bike, the year makes no difference, I'd bank the grand and get the 08 if that's the case. personally I like the look of the 08 better, but that's just me. I see you getting it for $2700 cash or checkbook in hand, but still even at $2800 or $2900 still a good buy in my mind.

Miles aren't a problem with any of them.. They each should look like new, ride like new, and run like new.. FMF exhaust - a full FMF system with megabomb is over $500.. with powerbomb $400..

I'd look at the '08 first and the others next. If the '08 is nice, it could be made a 28hp BB351 for less than the '12..

Not sure what the "08" actually is. It will depend on where you are. In the US, the first version were sold in 2006 and 2007, no model in 2008 , and then in 2009 they came out with the newer version that, for the most part, hasn't changed since. That is in the US, your location says "sandy island" so there is a good chance you are not in the US.

Either way, I'd look at the "08" for the money. Depends on condition, but as others have said, you would have money for upgrades 351.

Let us know how it goes.

Great advice,

As far as the 08 goes I was trying to figure out the same thing. I'm seeing they did not make one in 2008 here in the states. So I am wondering where this seller is getting his info from.
Maybe he is looking at the numbers on the bike and seeing the build date and assuming its the bike year. If it was built in 08 it would most likely be an 09, I think.

The sandy Island is on the east cost of the USA.

To throw something else in the mix I came across a WR250R, I know this is a KLX forum and you guys are probably bias but this one might sway you.

Its a 2012 with a Thumper Racing big bore 280 kit, FMF full exhaust, FMF fuel injection tuner, scotts stabilizer, Ims oversized tank. the issue to me is that he has it set up with a super moto wheel set with offered tires and oversized caliper and rotor. Has 5000 miles
$4100

The WR probably has about the same HP and less TRQ as the '08 with a BB351 kit.. If dual sport offroad tires are not an option due to the current owner horsing around with the wheels, then all you have is a street bike..

I'd go with the wrr after a test ride and some scrutiny. I'd be concerned who did the big bore work and why?? I own a klx but have test ridden a WR recently, the WR is in a class way above the klx in performance and capability.
