Default second bike....is this a good deal for a TT600?

My neighbor down the street is selling his 1984 Yamaha TT600 and he wants $800......good deal or no?

Its in great shape for a 23 year old bike, it has a supertrapp exhaust and other than that its all original, even has the dang chaingaurd still on it. The frame isnt even rubbed from boots. Its kinda weird with the dual exhaust exit, it even has a 2 barrel carb and its still a single cylinder.

whatcha think?

btw deej.....I wont get mad if you hyjack this thread .....I promise.

Does it start and run ok? Any major rattles that you can hear from the crankshaft? I had a 1977? TT500 that I did nothing to besides oil changes and clean the air filter. Mine was the older model with dual shocks in the rear. I think it had a whole five inches or travel or so! Anyway, the motor ran great and never had a problem with it.

Im glad somebody replied, if Im gonna buy this I need to do so ASAP, so please give me your opinions.

It runs great, no noise whatsoever from the engine and it shifts great. I wasgoing 5mph in 3rd gear, twisted the throttle and it just launched.

The only problems I could find are:
[ul][*]Clutch is really stiff, has a weird feel...could it be a dry cable?[*]Rear suspension is squeaky as hell....grease?[*]needs rear brake pads bad[*]kinda popping on decel, probably needs re-jetting after supertrapp was installed...I dunno[*]gas tank yellowed/decals[/ul]
The tires are good, no leaks and 100% bone stock except for the exhaust.

Its in great shape, those are the original plastics and even the original fork boots. The triple trees are shiny and the frame has no rust, not even a boot scrape.

Yeah, make sure you can get parts for the old beast. I'd repack all the frame bearings as SOP on a used bike. Use Kroil or Liquid Wrench as needed to break the bolts free.

Do you plan to Dual Sport it?

Whatever you do, if you ride in the rain or ride thorugh a deep puddle, be sure and drag the brakes awhile to dry them out before you need them. Trust me... I know. [:-]
