Get the extended warranty?
I paid $440.00 for the 4 extra year warranty, which added to the original year gave me a lot of confidence that even if things went south I would be taken care of. I have to say that even if at the end of the 5 years and I didn't need the warranty, it was all worth it to me. How many people ride after the first year as if they are worried about getting on it? With the warranty, you don't' have to beat up your machine, but at the same time you don't have to ride it like its going to fall apart at any second. Just my two cents......Hey speaking of two cents, my banker told me that the US Govt is trying to change the value of the Penny to 5 cents because they are getting lost, destroyed or collected in jars. Can you imagine, all those millions of pennies sitting in jars that could increase in value by 500% ?
If instead you take that $440 and invest it in the stock market with a 15% return you can turn that into $1000 in 5 years. You may or may not need to spend that repairing your bike. If you are even more savvy and can get a 30% return, you can double that to about $2000 over the same five years. And in just two more years it will be worth $3500.
If you really know how to pick the stocks and you would have bought $440 worth of Apple stock 4 years ago, that would be worth $10584 today. Enough to by two brand new KLX's, or any very high end European dirt bike like a fancy KTM, Husky, Aprilla, and several $K left over for some serious bling.
My point is that there are better ways to spend your money than the extended warranty. Besides, extended warranties are a money-making proposition from the manufacturers. Chances are good that you'll never need it. If you do, that's great, but the probability is that you won't.

Considering how many times I've taken the bike apart to install the 300 kit and the kickstarter, if anything fails it's probably my fault and I will fix it with cheap klx300 parts or make them fit, it's not an option for me anymore.
