Default Extended Warranty???

I didn't go for the extended warranty at the dealership when I bought my KLX, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should have gotten it. Can I still get it even though I bought the bike a month ago?, and would it be a wise idea to do so? Directly from Kawasaki or do I have to buy it from the dealer? Many thanks

Steve

Default RE: Extended Warranty???

Hey guys, noobie here, just wanted to follow up with another question about the warranty:

Do some, all, or any of the free mods affect any part of the extended warranty I bought?
Like the air box mods, etc.?

I have been reading through these threads on how to upgrade the bike for a month or so now,
and I have yet to see anyone mention if any of these free mods will in any way affect my
extended warranty that I purchased. I know the dealer said that with the kawi warranty, any
maintenance work I do is still covered. So am just wondering if any of the mods I do will
change anything.

Also, your threads have been ultra-informative!!!! I haven't tried any of the mods yet, but
will soon. Keep em up!!!!

Thanks,
Corey

In light of the discussion over the valve life on our bike, I am thankful that I got the extended warranty. You should be able to get one if you still want it. I am also curious about how mods affect our warranty.

I opted for the warranty right from the get-go. I don't want to have to deal with problems if they come up, and to have a 5 year warranty is just another thing I won't have to worry about. It's a cheaper piece of mind than going to a therapist. haha LOL And as far a mods affecting warranties, I can't answer that, but mine have all been cosmetic......so far, but if I keep hanging with you guys I will probably end up doing something I won't regret.

Just think of it like this, if the mods do void the warranty, then what is the use of getting the 5 year warranty if you are going to mod the bike? They just cancel each other out and you are out the money that you spent on the warranty that you could have spent on extra MODS!!!! That is, if it does void the warranty

Ya, I guess when I bought the bike, I assumed I would be doing mods, but strictly aftermarket mods such as an exhaust system.
Not till I found this geiser of information of a message forum, did I realize all the other free mods you can do.

I honestly can't think of any reason why any of the airbox, carb, crankcase, or even stock exhaust mods would cause a problem with the
extended warranty.

Just wanted to be certain.

Oh, by the way, I love this bike, and it's still in 100% stock form.

Mine's still stock and, while I still love it, I really want to get started on the mods. In fact, I may just skip to the 300 kit and get it over with. I wonder what that would do to my warranty?

Default RE: Extended Warranty???

This is just a guess as I have no direct experience submitting warranty claims with Kawasaki. But I do have experience doing so with other manufacturers and dealerships. In my experience, the dealer plays a big factor - honesty and integrity are hard to find. I had obvious warranty issues with a Nissan Pathfinder about 10 years ago. The dealer refused to honor the 60,000 mile warranty - said the specific problem was not covered. Well, my father had the exact same problem with his Nissan and it was covered. Two different dealers. I live quite aways away in a different state so it was not easy to just take my vehicle to the other dealer for the work. After some rather hard convincing with my dealer and relating that the other dealer did claim the work was covered under warranty, the work was reluctantly covered. Hmmm.

At any rate, I think that, depending on the dealer, you might have problems, even though it might be covered by Kawasaki. I think that many are just out to get your money and anything they can point to and say "that voids the warranty" (read - is something they can now charge you for), they will do. With my case above, I suspect the dealer knew full well it was covered, but didn't know that I knew. Thus, they could charge me for the work ... and then also submit the work back as warranty coverage work and be paid twice, essentially. Good for them, bad for me. I've never gone back to that dealership and have also told my story to others considering doing business with them, so ultimately that's a bad way to do business, though it may seem good in the short term. Problem is, many dealers work this way and so ... where can you turn?

This is why I do all my own work where I can. There are some things that are beyond my skill level, but anything within my range I will do myself. For those that I need to rely on a dealer mechanic, I'm always reluctant to turn my bike or car over to them because, in my experience, I have about a 50/50 chance of coming away with a bad experience.

So to make a long story short, if you submit any warranty claims, you have a good chance of the dealer claiming your warranty is null and void if you offer up the fact that you did the mods you did. Just don't say anything - they might notice and they might not, but if your engine explodes you don't have to tell them you rejetted the carb because they'll latch onto that and say "ah ha!", when we all know that had nothing to do with it.

For me its no mods excepting the Pelican case and no extended warrantee.
At first I was gung ho on all the mods then suddenly I said to self what is the primary mission of this bike? does it do it in stock form? yes and yes were the answers.
