Front sprocket - removal tool

Front sprocket - removal tool
Those of you who have changed the front sprocket will jnow how hard it is to remove. Fine if you have a high torque rattle gun. Otherwise you can jam a bar between thethe rearsprocket, wheel hub and swing arm. This is how I removed mine for the first time and it worked. Back then I had the standard steel sprocket on. Now that I have changed to an alloy sprocket this method risks destroying the alloy sprocket - in fact I could not remove my front sprocket due to the give in the alloy.
So i made up this simple tool and did it work well!
The tool consists of 6 - 8" of standard 520 chain - the left over links from my last chain change (most chains come as120 link and you only use 108 -110)
another 2 foot of open link chain, a 1/4" bolt and a 4" x 5/16 bolt
join the two chains using the 1/4" bolt. The longer 5/16 bolt is pushed through a link of the chain and inserted into the hole in the rear axle. The short 520 chain is placed around the front sprocket. When youturn thefront sprocket, the chain will tighten and lock and you will easily be able to remove thenut. reverse to tighten the nut.

RE: Front sprocket - removal tool
good thinking man.....
on a side note, i just changed mine, used air impact gun.... anyways.... when i went to put the new one on i decided to look into the sevice manual to see what torque the nut needed to be, only 92 ft-lbs... so there is no need to crank the nut on like no tommorrow.... i used a torque wrench, and its actually not that tight... i could have made it alot tigher with the air gun.... FYI guys.... but if you dont have a torque wrench, id crank it on pretty good.
