finished the mods....but....
I really like the 14/49 combo and without it I would have never gotton out of 2nd gear in this last, really tight, race. I went with a non O ring racing chain but was reading that I should have stayed with the O-ring type due to the sand I ride in.
I love the new performance overall but feel like I should be able to get better milage so I can at least finish two laps of a three lap race without refueling. I am leaning toward some kind of analytical approach on adjusting the jetting to minimize the number of time I pull the carb.

Even if it was only up to 3rd gear for 19 miles, that's pretty dismal fuel economy even under race conditions. Sounds like something may be off with the carb. Did you notice if you had any leakage out the overflow?
Just to update my mods. I've gone up to a 128 jet size. Night and day difference now. Wheelies are easy now, just gotta practice them more. I'm concerned that I might run out of altitude room since I'm at 4000 ft yet the 128 DJ runs perfect. If I go higher through the mountains I might get too rich, but we'll see. Bikes awesome now.
Bryan, I ran 25 miles on Saturday in fast (18+ mph )conditions in the sand, whoops, and sand trails in the woods. I measured the fuel used and it was exactly one gallon. The only tuning I did was clean the air filter but I was able to get higher speeds after getting my new front springs dialed in ( now at 4 clicks). This week I plan to cut the fuel screw adjustment down to 2 turns out and I am going to drill the slider vent for faster throttle action.
I was higher in RPM's in this practice run than I was able to do in my last race so that leads me to believe it is the low end that is eating the fuel. I also am getting some afterfire on deceleration. I alleviated some of this before by tightening the fuel screw so I think a little more tightening may help.
