Well.....we'll find out. I'm an environmental engineer..... electrickery is my weakest suit....it couldn't have been the washing...it was just a light wash, I've pressure washed clay off that bitatch plenty of times....never mind riding on the beach and wiping out in the ocean...lol

Coincidence I bet....but we'll see.

Hey do you or anyone on here know C# ..... I buried at work and could really use some help....I got money.

You mentioned a dousing in salt water. A short to ground through the armature of the motor would be your problem, (huge load on battery but no fuse blowing) not much you can do about that in the bush unless you can take the starter apart and find where the windings are shorted. Just have a kickstarter or hope it doesn't happen at the bottom of a raveen!! This was a wierd one.
So it sounds like you had tow probs, the first being the starter and the second being that the CDI went into some protective mode and had to be reset by disconnecting the bat terminals and turning on the key switch? Do I have that part right?

Yup you got it Red.....if you ever have a short in the starter ..... disconnect ground from batt...turn key on...turn key off...put ground back on...turn key on...turn key off...turn key on again and the cdi has juice....now you can push start or kick her.

THEre are starting to be the odd 640 and 690 coming up for sale by poor guys that have lost their jobs so I am thinking by the time I am ready to buy there should be quite a few. Things are not going to get any better very soon.

Yeah wat is C#

Glad you got it worked out. I wish they'd never put electric starters on these bikes.

Wow! I just found this post..(I need to hang out in the KLX section more) But seriously, I was leaning toward water in the hey switch or starter button that finally dried out or escaped. But you guys know me right? I mean nobody has washed their bike more than me, and I have never had a single problem with water. +infinity on adding the Kick starter, I will do that mod one day when I'm not broke........which will be in just under 5 years. Glad you figured it out. But I hate when you get something fixed and don't know why.... Oh well let us know if you have any more issues with this. Also can you freeze dry some seafood for me and ship it up, I'm on the Atkins Diet and seafood is all zero carbs. You're making me drool when you talk about the salt water fixings.

I meant Pack in dry ice, not freeze dry LOL
