Default Converting KLX to SOHC

wanted to share my stupidity/stupid luck/bad luck, whatever you want to call it jajaja.

Exhaust cam sprocket fell off a couple of weeks after MCM mod. Bolts were tightened to factory manual specs using blue loctite. This time I used red loctite and more torque on the bolts.

No damage except for a broken of plastic off the chain guide that doesn't seem to affect operation. I feel extremely lucky and stupid haha. Feel free to flame :P

Had a lot of noise while half way to work, like a loose timing chain, but it died after I arrived and was just idling trying to figure out what the noise was thankfully.

The bolts ended up to the right of the main drive gear.

Consider yourself blessed if it didn't smack the valves. I would go out and buy a lottery ticket.

The timing chain snapped a week after I posted this. So much for no damage. The links on the inside of the chain were chewed a bit, just enough to prevent some of them from pivoting freely. Also, the chain was stretched based on how tight the new one was when setting the timing. Ill measure the old chain and post some pics.

cheers

It's back up an running after a new cam chain, valve adjustment and manual cam tensioner.

Bummer - I had another bike that had some crazy top-end noise... took it apart to figure it out and the cam gear bolts had backed out and were tapping on the valve cover! I was lucky to not have the same result as you.

Might as well do a 351 kit since you're there, right?

Now you're making me consider pulling the cam cover and safety wire drilling the cam bolts! I guess I could have the compression release pressed out at that time too... Maybe buy a carb and do that then as well. Boy, this is getting expensive!
