I don't know how big a difference this is going to make.

I think I'll order a set of those weights and try balance the tyre myself. When you spun the wheel on your DIY balancer, what were you looking for to determine you had the right amount of weights in the right position?

This'll give you an idea of the kind of set up you'll need to do the balance. I used a couple of axle stands and my short power bar to do the job. Basically you put the wheel on the rig and it'll centre with the heaviest spot at the bottom. You then want to apply your weight to the opposite side of the wheel. I used spoke weights (in the thread I posted too) but you can use any weight really (fishing weights, stick on weights, although if you get em really wet they tend to come loose.) You aim is to get a nice seesaw with no specific weight ending up on the bottom. The weight you add and the rimlock and valve should settle anywhere when the wheel is spun slowly. If either weight leads to the bottom then it's not right.

I weighed my rimlocks first and then applied that amount of weight to the wheel first. I didn't need any more on the rear rim but on the front i needed to add another .75 oz. It's a good idea to put the lightest part of the tyre near the valve and rimlock too (most manufacturers mark the tyre with a dot. Pirelli use a red dot)

Front Talon rimlock with nut and spacer 76 grams. Rear Talon rimlock with nut and spacer 64 grams.

I ordered myself some cheap spoke weights off ebay in 1 oz and 3/4 oz sizes over the weekend.

They arrived yesterday, so based on your rimlock weights (I also have Talon's in the same size as yours) I put 2.75 oz on the back and 2.25 oz on the front to more-or-less balance the wheels till I get the time to do it properly this weekend. The ride to work this morning was definitely a lot smoother, though I think I still have some tweaking to do. Thanks for your advice and putting me onto this idea

Anyway, onto the important stuff... How is the rest of your modding and upgrading going?
