Checking the Oil

My bike has never used ANY oil! Period. I check it every once in a great while. Now if you see oil all over your rear end or tire, you should check it and slow down on the corners.

I am hoping the KLX is not an oil burner. This is one of the negatives to the KLR650. And if you run low on oil, you risk burning up one of the exhaust cam journals which requires replacing the head. I had to replace the head on my 2007 due to this and that experience turned me into a check your oil ****.

I am going to try adjusting my brake lever. If that was how mine looked, I would be happy.
What is weird is that the sight glass would be easily visible if the lever didn't have that unnecessary hump in it.

I am huge (6'4"), 60+ and my knees are shot. Try doing that while kneeling on sharp rocks. That is what kneeling on any hard surface feels like to me.
So I guess the answer is no, there really is no other way to do it.
I will probably end up reshaping the foot lever so it doesn't obstruct the sight glass. My plan is to carry a small inspection mirror so I can check the oil while standing. I take things like checking the oil regularly seriously.

I got stumpy legs and also always have boots on so mine is adjusted further down like above.
