Chain Lube Selection

Chain Lube Selection
I was using WD-40 to clean, then lithium grease to lube. Then I thought, hmm am I doing this wrong?
I did the KF search and then looked in the 09' Manual at 2-28. No specification that I could see. But, it did note as "caution" to use only Kerosene or Diesel for cleaning the chain. Doh!
What do you use to clean then lube your chain?
Thanks.

Try a product called O'Lube from O'Donnell racing.( R/C car company designed for gears bushings bearings, driveshafts..) this lube contains krytech a wax base lubricant, this lube dries to a non oily residue that repels dust and water and works well at eliminating drag and bring more power to the wheel!! I have Used it on my nitro cars for a while and just started using it on my 3D helicopters, and Have been expiermenting on the chain on the bike with Exellent results!!!! I also use another R/C product for cleaning called Nitro wash cleans oil and grease and will not damage rubber or plastic, and is safe for electronics.

Its an O ring chain.
You don't need to use anything other than the WD you''re using now.
I use a quality penetrating oil after I wash the bike, or ride it in the rain, just to keep it from rusting.

I use Royal Purple MaxChain. It sprays on, and dries as a wax. Works great. To clean the chain, I use simple old gasoline. Take a drain pan, add a little bit of gasoline, and scrub/soak the chain. Then just re-apply a chain oil.
FYI: Don't use a motor oil. It does not hold to the chain very well and will drip off after letting the bike sit. It works as a lube, just messy when riding.

I squirt the chain with WD40 after a wash to displace moisture and limit rusting.
Then when its dry I squirt it with some chain lube that comes in a sliver can with red writing that is supposed to be specifically designed for an o-ring chain on a dirt bike.
I can't remember the brand.
Seems to work OK and isn't too messy.
But I'm a bit gullible and maybe I'm shelling out my hard earned unnecessarily.

Try some Sidewinder lube. Best stuff I've used and I've tested many. WD-40 is a solvent. It has it's place/uses, but not on my chain. If I was a farmer, I'd use it on my tractor. Sorry, but I'm sort of a nut when it comes to lubes and cleaners. If it suits your fancy, then use it. Just think about what you're doing. Unless you totally get the cleaner/solvent stuff off, you will be diluting the good, final stuff.

I remember now, this is what I use and one of the reasons I use it is I carry the little can with my tool kit when doing 2 or more days riding.
That way I can give it a quick squirt at the beginning of each day
You only buy the little can once and then you recharge it from the big can like you would recharge a butane lighter.

I found this... interesting.
Thanks, I'll go pick up something other than WD-40

The stuff Neil is using is excellent. I use it on my mountain bike and a few other things. When I swapped sprockets and chain I bought all Sidewinder stuff so thought I might as well try their lube. It's alot like the Motorex....thin, easy to use, and doesn't fling. Had I stuck w/ the Motorex I'd still be happy.
