Default Chain Lube?

Hey me again, I just washed my bike and it seems as though the chain is a bit dry. The manual says to use SAE 90 wt but all I have here is some Mobil 1 Synthetic 75-90 gear oil. Should I use this or get something else? I'm going to change my oil this week sometime, picked up a case of Mobil drive clean 5000 10w40 non synthetic which I use in my car as well so I figured may as well get em both done. Turns out that Walmart carries the Fram filter for our bikes for a whopping $4.50, I've always had to go through NAPA or a cycle supply place for my other rides. I've only got 200 miles on it but as mentioned in a previous post I'm not real keen on how the shifts feel so I'm going to put some fresh oil in and see where that gets me.

Chain wax works great, I spray mine once a week.

I second that. I started using it when I bought my '04 CBR600RR upon recommendation from the parts guy. It's much cleaner than 90 weight oil and I have had no problems whatsoever.
On my 1998 VFR800FI, I used the 90 weight oil as per the owner's manual and it constantly left a disgusting mess.

+1 on the maxima chain wax, great stuff.
a grundge brush works great to clean the chain, kerosene works very good but with a little more elbow grease even simple green will work.

Will kerosene mess with the o-rings?

Hey Deej. I don't know about kerosene messing w/o-rings, but I like using citrus oil products for chain cleaning. I've always used them on my mountain bike/motorcyle chains and they work real well. One brand I've used is Pedro's, and while it doesn't work as quickly as kerosene, or one of the other chemical based cleaners, it does work well and is safer.

Citrus oil? Does it attract bees? One time I used a citrus based cleaner on one of my bikes and I couldn't get rid of the bees![&:]

I can see where it might attract bees, but I've never had a problem. I was just tossing out an option.

Haha I'm sure your product is fine. I remember now, I used this wood polish/re-oiling product called Orange-Glo. I noticed it gave the greatest shine on dull faded rubber/plastic parts. It smells really good too...like fresh oranges! Well the bees loved it too and swarms of it followed me everywhere![&:]
