RE: Calling all 2009 KLX Owners!!!
ok well tonight I heard the dreadded clacking noise on the 09 @ 5500-6000-7000 RPM**underload mostly** Sounds dead on like valvetrane noise coming from the right side topend kind of close to the little black half moons...
just wondering if any others have the noise in the 09...
trying to pinpoint the exact location
the KACR system?
Tensioners?
chain?
Piston slap, but why at that high of RPM???
Just tossing the fact out to the wolfs
2009 KLX250S stock with no smog crap..etc

mine gets noisy up that way, but they all do. my DRZ would scream when I pushed it up there. and it's a 5-speed so it was up there a lot. like NB said, he's right but it will never be real quiet.

Whats goin on guys? Im a pretty new 2009 KLX 250s owner and I had a couple of questions. For one, I want more power, and heard a new exhaust was a good way. Heard about some other ways but Id like to know a way that will make the bike faster, but not overload the engine over time. Also, looking for some black plastics...or advice on rhino lining. Also, I changed the oil at 250...smart?...or did it matter? Was pretty dirty. Appreciate you taking the time to read and would love to get more advice...even the basics...never owned a bike before. K guys, thanks

noone makes plastics... except kawi. Exhaust, and jet it will help alot, along with the "free mods" What do u want to rhino line? Alot of people change oil sooner than 250.... but cant change that now.

Hey Bryan, welcome to the forums, on the oil change, that's actually a lot of miles for the first one. Its been discussed on here at length, but generally assumed that most of the break in wear happens in the first 40 to 100 miles. I did my break in using the Mototune method, running through the gears at highway speeds using a lot of back pressure compression to seat the rings. But you have to do it on a brand new bike. Plastics probably will never be available here, although if Tremor38 would get his act together and start exporting stuff from Japan he could make bank and have a lot more friends. Hey Dean[8D] Anyway do yourself a favor and get the Muzzy, full system, and change the gears to 13-45 and jet the bike, throw the air box lid in the box with all the other stuff that will eventually come off the bike. Have fun on here and get over to the new members area and post an introduction, we don't want you to get lost in the shuffle.

nah deej, it's an '09 thing. the shroud topssitagainst the tank under the seat and they vibrate against the metal/plastic meeting. a strip of that soft rubber sticker stuff would solve it. other than that, no other noises.
maybe a couple strips of electrical tape overlapping each other on each side would do the trick too.
