Talking Braaap and getting old

I purchased my '09 this spring with an FMF slip-on and a DJ kit already installed. It runs well and I'm having fun with it, but that sucker is loud with the FMF on it.

The noise was really bothering my ears--and I wear earplugs every time I ride. Might have enjoyed the noise more when I was younger, but I'm 61 and my older brother is already using hearing aids. I really don't want that hassle or expense.

I found an OEM, unused muffler off a 2013 in Missouri for $25 and ordered it in. Put it on this morning.

What a difference! Lost a few mph off the top end, but it is still quick enough off the line to entertain me. Topped out at 67 mph, according to the GPS, but that seemed fast enough on that light a bike. If I need to go any faster and I'll take the Triumph.

I'm running the DJ 124 jet and will keep an eye on fuel economy. The DJ kit says to run the 116 with the stock muffler and the 120 with a high-flow muffler.

So, no more Braaap for me. Now riding an angry sewing machine.

The FMF is about the quietest one out there.. that is the one I have on my 09.. No fault to you if you don’t like it.. sounds like you took care of the extra noise..
I took my stocker off first 100 miles it sits here pristine in my FMF box.. for me and others we like the Braapp.. but I also ride a Harley... I guess you can’t stand those... oh I’m 63 and with just a helmet on the sound it’s bad.. but to each there own... ride on and enjoy

Agree-to each his own. It may have been that the FMF just needed to be re-packed. I wanted to try to get the longer baffle for it from FMF, but it is out of stock. The deciding factor was last week when I rode for a couple of hours. The sound actually hurt my left ear (which makes no sense as the pipe is on the right.) Just something about the frequencies being emitted, I guess.

Not necessarily against the brap...just didn't work for me to enjoy the bike.

Ride on!

One should be able to put a stock muffler back on, there are plenty around. I never took mine off, I can't stand a HD, nor these DA's with their ****ty sounding diesel wanta be pickup trucks.

My only concern at this point is whether I'll need to re-jet and keeping those darn kids off my lawn.
