How to gut a stock Muffler???
I came across some 1.5" od stainless steel tubing that I thought would work great for a home built muffler upgrade. Is this tubing to big? how far should I go in to the muffler? Will my spark arrestor be affected? I'm thinking of making a removable end plate so I can repack my muffler. Is this a good Idea also? Thank for all you help.

1.5" perforated sounds kinda large for the displacement. I would not mess with the stamped/approved spark arrester. Just my thoughts on it so far.

honestly, the sparkarrestor is just a safety thing, 1)is to keep hte exhaust fumes from igniting 2) noise/emissions regs. i take all of mine outta my 4-stroke bikes, it gives you uqite a bit of performance for removing 3bolts, and it sounds alot sweeter to

If you are going to go throught the work to gut and mod a stock muffler I would just search Ebay for an aftermarket muffler from any fourstroke bike and then weld it to fit the headpipe. Someone on here did this a long time ago, and from what I remember it turned out pretty good. The stock muffler in my opinion is not worth the trouble to do anything to except take it off. If you want something on the cheap get a stock exhaust from a klx300.

You are pretty much buying a new muffler to be able to ride off-road once you mess with the stock muffler...the spark arrester is a turbine type wheel and you have to drill through this to open the muffler up, so unless you are very constructive with a welder and can recreate a spark arrester (easiest may be a screen type) and make a removable end cap, then DON"T DO IT! I've done it, and yeah it helps (and jet the carb of course), but now i need a new muffler beforeI can hit the trails legally. But hey, it's your call.
