Default Big Bore kits

I would like to know before ordering which is more reliable: a pressed in liner type or a renikasiled big bore cylinder? There are many different displacements/liner types available, so I'm doing some researching. thanks

I'm no expert! But I would think that simply buying a KLX300 jug and associated parts from Kawasaki would be the best big-bore option in the reliability field.

Thats hard to say. Both have their advantage. Probably the best reliable big bore kits would be the 300 & 331. 350 is a sleeved and is new to the market.

Theres also many dicussens on the topic. Do a search.

I have a question, I have no idea if this is possible. Would a KFX 450 R cylinder fit this lower end?

Probably not. Different case opening first off. Not to mention alot of other factors including base stud pattern & top end brg/connecting rod compatability differences.

Using the search 14 pages under 'Big Bore reliability'. The last 6 wouldn't load.

Can the 250 cyl can be used or does a 300 cyl need to be sent to KK for the reboring/replating?

Thanks to those w/ experienced information.

KK only bores the klx300 cylinder if you want their Nikasil coated 331cc kit.

You might be able to talk Marvin (KK owner) into boring the 249cc jug, but he would probably end-up sleeving it just as Bill does.

Why would a sleeve liner upgrade be inferior to to Nikasil or a 300cc factory top end? Lots of automotive and diesel engines use sleeve liners.

The nikasil offers better heat transfer. Their is also the issue of two different metals expanding at different rates. But other than a few minnor pro & cons, it shouldn't matter too much. Sleeve liners are proven for decades upon years of street and racing.
