Hi, new member here. I agree. Look on Bill Blue's site, page 4. He calls it a smog block off plate. So, if you've removed all the smog stuff, you can install this plate on the front, left side of the head, instead of cutting the hose and plugging it or removing the hose and capping the inlet.

Try doing a search for "smog removal" or even "free mods". Either way, there should be a ton of useful results. Most of these members are totally awesome with the tech. info. Good luck!

Is this part a must, and is it installed on the exterior of the engine? where is this hose located?

It's optional...unless you are fitting a pumper carb.

There's a plate with a hose fitting on the forward part of the cylinder head. If you remove that plate, you can replace it with Bill's blank-off plate. The blank-off plate covers a reed valve to disable KCAS (Kawasaki Air Suction System) which dilutes your exhaust gasses with fresh air. You'll also need to plug the vacuum nipple on the CVK as well as the fitting where the hose hooks to the air cleaner.

The advantage of eliminating the KACS plumbing is that you can clean-up the area above the engine by eliminating a lot of hoses and your exhaust will run slightly cooler.

No performance gain what-so-ever though...your choice...unless you have pumper carb on the way...because most of them don't have a vacuum nipple to power the system.
